Cover Charge

This is a bore's approach to redesigning book covers.

We have always heard of the futility in judging a book by its cover. It still holds true. However, sometimes, you might want that your most favorite books has a cover that you can easily relate to. Plus, it is a great way to play with the tools on Photoshop.

Is there any book you wish it had a better cover?

Sometimes, it is much better to read a book, cover to cover, reading between its lines, learning and indulging, while leaving the digging for aesthetic sense to those guys who would do nothing but make too much effort on seeing things their way.

No one can deny, in a way, design is not how it works, contrary to what Steve Jobs's fans would like to believe. Rather, it is about making the things more meaningful by adding essence with not the words, but some sort of visual ideas.

Yes, any visual can be worth 10 thousand words.

Some popular approaches include:

  •     There is more than one way to do it (TIMTOWTDI), a philosophy to allow multiple methods of doing the same thing.
  •     Use-centered design, which focuses on the goals and tasks associated with the use of the artifact, rather than focusing on the end user.
  •     User-centered design, which focuses on the needs, wants, and limitations of the end user of the designed artifact.
  •     Critical design uses designed artifacts as an embodied critique or commentary on existing values, morals, and practices in a culture.
  •     Service design designing or organizing the experience around a product, the service associated with a product's use.
  •     Transgenerational design, the practice of making products and environments compatible with those physical and sensory impairments associated with human aging and which limit major activities of daily living.
  •     Speculative design, the speculative design process doesn’t necessarily define a specific problem to solve, but establishes a provocative starting point from which a design process emerges. The result is an evolution of fluctuating iteration and reflection using designed objects to provoke questions and stimulate discussion in academic and research settings

Kangla Man

We are what we think.

This photo was taken inside the sacred Kangla Fort, which has been a royal citadel since 33AD. More than the design, there is a certain inexplicable feeling when we visit there, situated right in the middle of Imphal town.

The Web Designer Experience: Uninvited design # 1 Imphal Free Press

Uninvited Design will cover a series of design renovation for sites that I would love to undress. Ewww. It is an amateurish attempt to make good design more prominent, while learning more about the tools and tricks of the trade. An amateurish attempt, because I do not even know how to use the pen tool properly on Photoshop. I believe only in recreating new things, in the most leisurely way—as in cutting an image into one hundred parts and joining them, but not before adding a grunge layer in between and adjusting its hue and saturation—and things like that.

The professionals web designers and developers must have put extra effort to make the sites look appealing as much as they would have done to enhance the functional qualities. I would not demean them or their work. It is just a perspective of certain flaws on particular sites and a way in which I would like to alter them.

I am an ardent believer of minimalism but I stick lack that touch to make a work look beautiful with less. Perhaps, I should start with my favourite things, just like having only very small pegs of whisky, instead of pouring a quarter at one go.

In a very apolitical term, I would quote RB Fuller, who considers, “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
